What's a browser?

A browser is the software that allows you to see web pages on your computer. Popular browsers include Internet Explorer, Firefox, and Safari.

What's a cookie?

A cookie is a text file that gets stored on your computer. It is sent there by the website you're visiting. Cookies help a website "remember" things about you.

Pro:
With cookies enabled (turned on), you're able to see web pages that reflect your specific choices and preferences. (Think of logging into a web-based email account; a cookie is how the site knows to send you your mail and not someone else's.)

Con:
Some sites may use cookies to track your visits—which you may feel is an invasion of your privacy.

Your computer's settings aren't letting you complete your course search.

The course search feature relies on cookies, but your browser does not currently accept cookies. Once you've changed your settings to allow cookies, you can go ahead with your course search. (If you aren't sure what the Internet terms "browser" and "cookie" are, please see the sidebar on the right for explanations.)

When does this site use cookies?

We might send your computer a cookie if:

You search for a college-credit course or summer program. (The cookie stores search parameters such as subject areas and/or colleges you selected; it is deleted immediately when you close your browser or start a new search.)
You choose to make the text on this site larger or smaller with our Text Resize tool. (Your size preference is stored on a cookie so that you don't have to re-size each page individually or on return visits. If you don't have cookies enabled, you can still re-size, but it will be page by page.)

How do I get my browser to accept cookies?

This will depend on which browser you use. Frequently you have a choice of allowing all cookies, no cookies, or some cookies. (The "some cookies" option would be sufficient for using this site.)
